Study Abroad
In 2007-08, 1 in 4 students traveled on a Trinity-led trip.
Make the World Your Classroom
In the context of another country, your education will come alive in the stories you’ll hear and the places you’ll see. Besides semester-long overseas study options (see page 7), Trinity professors lead their own short-term study abroad trips in conjunction with classes. Whenever possible, Trinity wants to provide its students with the option to travel internationally and experience the broader world for course credit—and for roughly the same cost as studying at our Deerfield campus.
Twenty-five students recently took “Egypt and the Bible” with renowned archaeologist and Trinity Professor Dr. James Hoffmeier and then traveled during spring break to Egypt to see ancient pyramids, tombs, and sculptures. Over the summer, Associate Academic Dean and History Professor Dr. Steve Pointer and English Professor Dr. Harold Baxter taught a “Trinity in Europe” Mayterm class, which included one intensive week of classes and four weeks of travel through Western Europe. Education majors traveled to Hungary to teach English at one of the top bilingual schools in the nation with Education Professor Dr. Robin Kohl. An athletic training major traveled with Health Science Professor Karl Glass to Thailand, where they lectured on athletic training at two universities. Philosophy students traveled with Philosophy Professor Dr. Chris Firestone to Romania, where they combined ministry opportunities with the study of apologetics and philosophy at Emanuel University.
“Experiential forms of learning are important,” says Dr. Pointer. “They help our students come to see the world as Jesus might see it and to engage culture in a way that develops their character.”
